111111

Happy 11/11/11 11:11:11!!!

When's the next time such an event will occur? In 2022 I guess.

Oh, and happy Remembrance Day (almost forgot the 11AM moment of reflection, except in Ottawa one might be reminded by the sound of aircraft or gunfire.)

By the way, this is the only time I will tolerate the writing of the date as depicted above. Today it doesn't matter which unit is the day or month or year. What really bugs me is when people write 09/10/11 or even 09-10-2011. If you think you know which number represents the month, you're probably wrong. When will people start using proper standards already? Hello ISO 8601.

I deal with a lot of computer files, and the date is often included in a filename. For the files to end up in correct alphanumeric order, the year should come first, then the month, then the day. Is that really so unnatural an order? I don't go around saying that 03:12 means 3 minutes after 12. Likewise dates should be shown with the broader units first. Oh, and use 4-digit years already; the 90s are over (but try telling my wardrobe that).

One day the world will conform... I just know it.

End rant. Happy 2011-11-11.

  3. Great piece!
It appears the banks now insist on doing it the right way, leaving you no options on a cheque but to do it their way. Plus, as a computer nerd like you this is a much bigger deal than your sisters can ever imagine.
    (Still love the girls, though)

  4. I hate this at work, too. I have to try figure out when a dog's rabies is due. Good luck.
Can't we just go and shoot whoever thought the non-system up?
