May long
We've gone to a number of garage sales this year already, and it's always fun to see what kind of crap you end up with by the end of a Saturday. Fortunately, sometimes it's useful stuff. Last year it included a baby bike seat (pictured at the end of this post). Last week it was another bike seat, the kind that goes between you and the handle bars. It's now so much easier to balance the bike, and the front tire once again respects gravity... and my knees don't even hit the new seat because it's wonderfully narrow. The only downside is that I can't stand on the pedals like you sometimes need to during an uphill exertion. Good thing my bike has a bazillion gears so I can pretty much pedal straight up a cliff without leaving my seat. And the best part? This thing was only $10, and I knew I could sell it for much more if I didn't like it.
Since Monday was a holiday, we had the opportunity to go for a nice bike ride along the river and canal. I hadn't mounted the new bike seat yet, and my offroad-y tires were woefully underfilled. So while Carrie toodled along on her old bike, I lost a few years of my life trying to stay within croaking distance in case I needed to tell her my heart was giving out. I still don't understand how the trip could have been uphill both ways, but at no point did I feel like I was coasting.
Our destination was Hog's Back Falls (again). The park there happened to sport a few tulips, meaning we didn't have to go see the main tulip festival gong show being held elsewhere.

The next day I managed to get the bike seat mounted, so Lily and I took it for a test drive two days in a row. The second day we took the dog along... not so smart when you're out and about for 3 hours; that dog was beat well before the end. Picture me with a kid in the seat and a dog under one arm. I went straight to the river and let her go for a swim. After that she could make it the rest of the way home under her own steam.

Today was the fourth day in a row that I went out and got some fresh air (I know, this is getting ridiculous). Lily and I went to visit some old folks who live an hour away, and while we were in the area we did some geocaching. (I'll admit that the excuse to go geocaching is partly how I could drag myself out the house the previous two days as well.) It's a fun activity (though I still need to convince Carrie of that), and I'm sure it'll get me exploring local places I otherwise wouldn't venture out to see.
I found some more photos on my phone from our visit to the family a few weeks back. Here's Lily with a tiny chair she initially tried to make her doll sit on. When that got old (i.e., failed) she proceeded to try and sit on it herself. She doth amuse us daily.
We're headed back down south tomorrow for the weekend. I thought we might take a scenic route through New York since we have all day to do it, but it looks like rain so that may not happen this time around.
